Here is a digital copy of Grapes of Wrath. It is only 319 pages long, which may make you feel better.
Plus, I've modified the dialectic journal to include the main questions you need to answer as you read. Please, make sure that you refer to the detailed notes as you add to your reading journal.

I've assigned two assignments that we will be working on over the next, several weeks. One is a creative project "My Walden" in which you will think like a Romantic and write about nature, yourself, the world in which we live. Below is a video that will help you make your own journal in which to record these insights.
Here's the nitty-gritty of the assignment, along with the due dates:
You will, also, be reading Grapes of Wrath. It's a very important work and quite extension. I've divided it into thirds so that you can read chunks at a time. Please, keep up with this.
And finally, we wrote a timed essay about disobedience. We will revise and edit and compare to a scored 8 essay.
Today, we had a fishbowl discussion over an individual's obligation to self, to community, and to government/nation.
Today, students were in their assigned small groups, and we had small group discussions over King's Letter from Birmingham Jail. We practiced a new discussion technique. One person answered a question and the other members of the group listened to the response and recorded it and wrote down the answer of their peer. Then, I called on one individual from various groups to tell the entire class what was said. This will help us think quickly, speak thoughtfully, and listen carefully.
We read and discussed King's response to the Alabama clergymen's open letter. There are several analysis questions to answer over this letter. Next class period, we will have a small group discussion.
We read and discussed Gandhi's "On Civil Disobedience" and the open letter of the eight Alabama clergymen to Dr. King. The discussion questions for both are in the Google Classroom.
Today, we are having a Socratic discussion over the three passages of Emerson.
We read an excerpt from Emerson's Nature and answered some questions.
Today, we drafted our argument essay. We had to complete a shaping form in the Google classroom, but the final draft must be posted in your Weebly, argument page. The due date is Monday by midnight.
Today, we read Emerson's "On Education" and answered discussion and analysis questions. What we did not finish in class became homework.
