We are reading and discussing chapters 2 and 3 of Douglass' autobiography.
We read chapter one of The Narrative in the Life of Frederick Douglass. This is an important autobiography, and we will invest some time in reading it. The six-weeks test will be a project over the reading, so it is important that we read carefully and take notes.

We are beginning to draft our first persuasive essay. Here is the template that will help you complete this process.
Today, we had a class discussion about love and relationships. The class divided into two groups: one group would stay in a relationship despite hardships and the other would not. One person from each group were assigned a dilemma and had to share why they would stay or go. After this, we began the outline for the essay prompt: Does love conquer all?
Students can use any type of relationship to argue their point: mother/son, husband/wife, friend/friend. The outlines are due next class period as we will begin the draft. Journal Prompt:We read a New York Times article titled "Bound by Love and Disability, and Keeping a Vow Until the End." This article is paired with Anne Bradstreet's poem "To My Dear and Loving Husband" because in both pieces couples love each other. Their love transcends all difficulties. As a whole class, we discussed what issues love transcends. Does love truly conquer all?
Today, we analyzed two poems by Anne Bradstreet. We are annotating diction, imagery, figurative language and trying to determine tone and purpose. The poem and questions were due at the end of class. For homework, you are going to write two poems of your own.
