Today, we took a practice multiple choice test and went over all of the questions. Then, we wrote a rhetorical analysis essay over an excerpt from Frederick Douglass' autobiography.

We are still working on rhetorical analysis. Today, we read an excerpt from Frederick Douglass's autobiography. We annotated according to the detail directions and completed some pre-writing. Next class period we will write an essay over this passage, so it is vital that the annotations and planning are complete.
We read "National Prejudices" by Oliver Goldsmith. We were to annotation the passage and then answer some questions. Unfortunately, we did not finish, so it became homework. It is due on Tuesday, October 25 (A) and Wednesday, October 26 (B).
You will respond to the following prompt on the Literature tab of your own Weebly:
In Chapter 16 of The Scarlet Letter, the narrator, using Pearl as an example of humankind in general, asserts that people are not truly "humanized" or capable of sympathy for others until they are deeply touched by grief. Write an essay in which you develop a position on this claim. Use appropriate examples from your reading, experience, or observations to support your argument. You must use Cicero's Six Part Oration to format your essay. Today, we finished deconstructing the "On Compassion" passage. We completed the graphic organizers that will help us write the essay. Unfortunately, we ran out of class time, and so for homework, we have to write the introductory and first body paragraphs. We will share these in class next time.
Today, we are preparing for a rhetorical analysis essay. We got into small groups and read "On Compassion" by Barbara Ascher. You had very detailed instructions on how to annotate this passage. Next class period, we will complete the graphic organizer and write the introduction and first body paragraph of the essay.
We spent the first part of the class period discussing The Scarlet Letter, chapters 5 - 12. In these chapters we discover quite a bit about the characters and Hawthorne's purpose. In addition, it is important to connect the writing to Romantic thinking. We are deconstructing one passage from the multiple choice test -- our lowest scoring passage and rationalizing our choices. This form will be in the binder and part of the binder grade.
Today, we got into small groups and went through the AP multiple choice test. We discussed our answer choices and tried to defend / explain them.
Then, we reorganized our binders, removing all of the homework. |
